Need help with oversleeping.

Discussion in 'Self Improvement' started by EyeofJudgement, May 1, 2019.

  1. Hey, so I got no trouble with my alarm clock when I have to get up and have to do something early but it’s the days that I have no responsibilities that I have trouble with. I still want to wake up early and get stuff done. I find myself subconsciously turning off the alarm on my phone and just trying to fall asleep again. This has happened lots of times over last year and the start of this one. Does anyone have any tips? I go from waking up to turn off the alarm at 7 and sleeping till 12. I feel like it’s a problem and want to fix it.

    I got same problem .
It fixed from it self with no porn + vitamins + restrain on masturbation and coffee.

  3. Guess I’m on my way there then, I started nofap two days ago, counting day 0. And haven’t drank coffee either, I’m just lacking the vitamins but it’s not that necessary I’m sure.

Do you go late to bed when you know you will have no responsibilities the next day ? If yes that's the first thing to fix. I do stay in bed pretty long in the morning as well, like wake up at 6.30 like any other day with my alarm clock and only get up at 8. However if I go to bed earlier like 10.30, it makes getting up early easier. Nice big breakfast, hot to cold shower, fresh clothes, and I'm set for the day. I feel it's important to keep that routine going even on off days.
There is also a technique I used at some point, counting down from 5 to 0, it worked wonders.

  5. Wow cool man, yeah I think you are right. I do take a bit lo get to go to sleep, I just sometimes get wrapped up while reading uni papers and don’t realise it. And the 5 to 0 do you use it as a countdown to move out of bed?

  6. Oversleeping might be a sign of a problem, depression for example and not a problem itself.

Try setting your phone alarm loud and leave it like 10 feet awat from your bed so you have to get out of bed to set it off.

Yes I found that technique in an interview I watched. I don't use it that much now, but whenever I really need to get moving and I feel lazy or my body just won't, it does work.
As an anecdote, I believe quality sleep is so important that I don't mind spending $1000-1500 into a good bed and mattress. 7 hours plus a couple short naps during the day is cool.

  9. I get it, I’ll try using it. One thing that I tried a few days ago and that worked was the sleepyti.me website. You put in what time you want to wake up and gives you some times you should go to sleep at so that you wake up just as a sleep cycle ends. That way you don’t wake up all tired from waking up between a cycle.

I have the same issues. A few months ago, I found an application called tricky alarm. When it sounds, it's not so easy to stop it. You have to complete a challenge. There are many kinds of this app, so the challenge varies. It could be scanning a QR code from a sticker in the bathroom, some maths, a memory game etc. It works 90% for me.

  12. Wow, well maybe try to exercise during the day so that you get tired, make sure you are not ingesting anything that might stop you from sleeping, don’t use your phone till really late or in bed cause that will trick your brain.

Why would you want to sleep less? If you want to stay awake then put your alarm away from you so you have to get up to turn it off, that always works for me.

  14. Mainly cause I don’t think it’s cool to sleep 10 hours straight, or waking up at 7 only to go back to sleep till 12 , just doesn’t work for me, there is lots of stuff I want and have to do. I think someone already gave me that tip here but thank you either way.
