What have been your biggest helps along the way?

  2. Firstly, the biggest thing for me was coming up with a solid diet and exercise regime to control the physiological side of sexual urges, then sticking to it rigidly.

Secondly, I rationalise everything in terms of brain chemistry and evolutionary biology. For example:
Why do we use porn? I rationalise this.
Why is there a higher chance of relapse if we consume sugar? I rationalise this too.
Etc. The process of rationalisation and developing understanding of the addiction helps me control it. It has also led to the diet and exercise strategies.

The third piece of the jigsaw for me is developing the right personal philosophy. This can be summed up in one word: 'selflessness'.

I agree though we must always be humble. I still consider myself a newbie. I am still deep in the woods.

What did you learn about sugar?

  4. Eating sugar depletes your brains dopamine reserves. A central plank of my rationalisation of physiological controls is conserving your dopamine reserves, mainly through a low GI diet. Dopamine isn't the villain. The villain is the sex dopamine receptors in the brain that are driving the pmo urges. If you can shut them up, then you are winning. They require a steady drip of dopamine. If the dopamine reserves in the brain become depleted, then they start snarling - like the rabid dogs they really are.

Everything I do is geared to keeping the dogs chained up. I call this my 'hunter gatherer' strategy. It works!

  6. Nothing other than really a low GI diet and daily aerobic exercise ... An hours walking a day. Obviously the first 100 days were difficult, but after that it was a breeze. I am convinced you can control this physiologically. It's all in my journal.

I'm bringing in exercise and diet. You make a good point on the importance of this.

If your body is restless because of bad food or lack of exercise- or sleep, the limbic brain will run autopilot and select PMO as a destination - crash course towards it. It obsesses to get the dopamine fix. But the autopilot will engage less when the body is at peace. Thanks for the suggestion.

  9. One way of looking at it is to say that yes our central goal is to stay pmo free, but that this is only possible if we adopt fastidious discipline over diet and exercise. The key though is that if we succeed here, we CAN control pmo desires - indefinitely (certainly seems this way to me right now after a full year pmo free).

Agreed. If you can do it for a year, you can keep it going. Disciplines are indeed important. Fasting, or somehow disciplining appetite and exercise tap into the same battle.

Your recent post inspired me to get this going. I'm close to 60 days and I need to double down on focus. Exercised and ate well last two days. Feeling better and sleeping better.

    PEACE

  11. Good news. It is easier to focus on something you can control, then knowing this will lead to the indirect control of pmo urges.
It took me a year of trying to give up sugar at home/work. I succeeded about 18 months ago. However this is one of the key things that gives me the physiological control I need.

9 weeks today. Definitely feeling the freedom from PMO. Dealing with temptation is relatively easy at 9 wks.

I mentally shut it down before it starts up.

" nope, not an option "

  17. Good job man. I want to relapse but can't cause competing with you and other guys. Its cool how unpredictable this is. One can go from 400 days to 0 days or from 500 days to 0 days. Top of the hill is not the safest place to be. It takes work, maintenance and that mindset to stay up.

Sorry for the late reply, thank you so much. You are absolutely right that it's possible and I think when I started out the biggest thing I had going on for me was that I believed that there is a life greater than what I was living, I believed that it was possible, I could live a life free from this pmo and I was mesmerised by the idea of it and once I hit those levels of streaks in which I did indeed lived that life, I sort of lost my belief and became okay with my life then but I realised that the fight never stops, one shouldn't be satisfied and always keep striving for more and say to oneself that "Yes there is more to it, there is more to life, there is more to yourself". IT'S POSSIBLE!

    DAY 79

    Challenges!

I had some challenges yesterday. But I made it through.

A woman at work - very attractive - was somewhat flirtatious yesterday. All I can say is that she stuck in my head and I battled with intrusive thoughts - but did not focus on them.

I would stop - become aware of what my brain was trying to do - and instead focus on the great changes that have occured.

I would say, with confidence - NOPE. THATS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. SHE'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.

    The urge left.

    PEACE!
