Real World Weeks

Discussion in 'Events & Challenges' started by The Great Safecracker, Mar 8, 2019.

  1. The goal in this challenge is to do everything to prevent lust from hijacking your life. The challenge is built on two main ideas. Firstly, the goals should be ambitious and challenging. On the other hand, the purpose is to create conditions where it's relatively safe to fail. By this I mean that failing to meet the standards will not discourage you and call for more failures.

I have noticed that it's very beneficial trying to avoid all fantasizing, arousal or anything that gives lust the chance to take control of you. For me, even single days without all this make a real difference. However, it is quite difficult to apply this kind of strict rules for longer periods.

The problem for many, many rebooters lies in the trend that simple failures attract more failures. This probably has several reasons behind it, but one is the mindset where you think: "A relapse won't matter now that I failed already." In general, people are too engaged in ideals and perfections.

The rules of the challenge, then. Porn and masturbation are obviously to be avoided. Notice that edging is included in masturbation and psubs are included in porn. (They have the same function.) More notably, all fantasies and sexual daydreams are to be brought down as soon as they are noticed. You also avoid arousing yourself in any way (unless that's with your partner). Moreover, ogling is not allowed. In short, you keep your mind in the real world instead of escaping into fantasies.

Breaking these rules will cause a reset. But now we need to discuss how the days are being counted. For seven successive successful days you accomplish a Real World Week. After this you start counting the following week from zero again. I suggest you keep track of progress like "3 + 4/7", which would mean that you have completed three weeks and four days of the next week.

Now, a reset will affect only the current week. Like this, a reset shouldn't be as big a deal as breaking, say, 74-day streak. This also makes it easier for you to keep honest to yourself. If you're in doubt of your actions, it's safe to do a reset and start again with high standards. It's very important that you keep your counter in this challenge independent of your other, regular counters. Ideally, you would not reset your pmo-counter when you reset in this challenge. That's the whole idea, really.

In my opinion, these rules are pretty hard to apply if you really keep honest. Remember that the whole point is to go for high standards in order to gain results. It's much better to catch yourself breaking the rules and making a reset, than fooling yourself and finally escalating into old habits. I guess resets are not going to be uncommon, but going for quality will pay off. Finally, you will not complete this challenge. The point is implementing habits while gathering Real World Weeks.

I will list some examples and what they mean to this challenge:

    - Searching for hot pics on instagram. => RESET
    - Having sex with your partner. => OK
    - Fantasizing about the pretty girl you saw yesterday. => RESET
    - Approaching the same girl next time you see her. => OK
    - Planning about watching porn. => RESET
    - Lusting over content that you accidentally faced on the internet. => RESET
    - Closing the explicit content you happened to stumble upon. => OK
    - A sexual dream (while asleep) that you can recall. => OK

Very nice start. I snapped out of beginning fantasies several times.

Yeah, it's great! I've been trying to get rid of the fantasies on my own, but remembering a small meaningful thing, this challenge, helps me to overcome them. You have no idea, I was shopping w/ two sisters and their sections are very triggering. I ended up falling asleep next to the undergarments... all thanks to this challenge! :p
    Undergarments= bras n' underwear.

This is not easy! Fantasies can be insidious. I was one step behind them yesterday, which gave them the opportunity to grow in the end.

So I do have fantasies, but the thing is that for me, the challenge begins as soon as I realize they are fantasies. So I'll be triggered, already beginning to think about masturbating, (which is a fantasy) BUT once I recognize I'm fantasizing, I have to stop, no excuses. Otherwise, I lose the challenge.
    That's good, right?

I think I relapsed. I masturbated while semi-conscious last night; Is that a relapse or a wet dream? RN, it's a relapse.

Fantasies are doing their best to push me away from reality. I'm doing my best to stay there.

This is harder than it looks, lol

  13. It definitely is. I just came here to reset my counter in this challenge. Giving in to fantasies makes me just lethargic.

  15. Well, they didn't - for the most part of the day. Suddenly they took their chance, and I failed quite badly. I had a great opportunity to cut my losses in the spirit of this challenge, but I didn't do it.

We need some strategies. Perhaps, we should keep a rubber-band on our wrists 'snap' out of it?!
This is a very perfect strategy, isn't it?
What color should our bands be?

  17. We could form a blues band.

I expected that resets are not going to be uncommon if being very honest. There's no fundamental need to do this perfectly but the pursuit will be beneficial. The idea was that there's only to win in here.

It would be nice to rewire your thinking so that you automatically snap out of temptations. Sometimes I tried to develop some crazy responses for them in my mind. I found it promising but then I stopped it. It takes continual daily work.

Awesome dude, I actually enjoy Blues and Classical Rock, so I concur. Plus, I love the color blue.
Tis settled then, the votes are in and blue shalt be thy color.

Well, it can be simple to handle temptations. You simply have to turn your head and run away.
Think of something else, do something else, look somewhere else, focus somewhere else.
That is the goal of this challenge after all, to help you look away.
it's still tough though, isn't it..
How are you handling the challenge?
