I think the main goals for nofappers, is to replace their porn consumption with something more productive. I am fascinated with the study of languages, once you peel off the layers of a language, you unlock a door to a new world. The world is not entirely run on english, I find english to be one of my all time favorites, so many ways of expressing yourself. I as of now speak a total of 3 languages, danish (my native language) then english, and swedish. my fourth pick will be russian, it will be more of a struggle, since I need to adapt to a new range of letters, the cyrrilic letters. But once you make it, you get a dopamine high porn cannot stack up with. It may not make sense for you who just begun your nofap journey, but you will find out eventually :) Russian here I come :)

  4. I took French in school, but I still can't speak it. I married a Hispanic woman(and dated a few before I met her). Now I speak Spanish pretty well.

surrounding yourself with native speakers of a language you desire to learn, puts your progress ahead :)

  6. I have taught English, and was very impressed by the young people who really had high level English. Vivre le Scandinavia!
And now....you lucky person, help to save the world, because you can. In several languages.

  7. I used to spend a lot of time learning languages. My Spanish is pretty good. I'd like to get better at German especially (for now). I also like just dabbling in different languages.

I don't do it a whole lot at the moment, besides occasional reading or listening to a foreign language, but I'd like to change that.

Maybe we could do an informal, language-learning accountability partners thing lol

  8. Boo. I expected to see someone who knows three different foreign languages instead we have a Dane who
    • speaks Danish. Doesn't count as it's your mother tongue
    • speaks English. Doesn't count as everyone born after 1989 in the West speaks English by default
    • speaks Swedish. Doesn't count as it's very similar to Danish
So "Learning my first foreign language." should have been the title.

Just kidding, gopnik. Good luck with learning russkiy.

  9. C'mon, this is a positive place generally.

Danish and swedish do share a big resemblance to each other, however, usually they need to speak to english if talking about more complicated things, basic phrases, like asking for the toilet, can be done through just speaking danish

What resources are you using. I'd like to learn Japanese and Tagalog. I learned French German and Spanish when I was young but have almost become illiterate in all three now.

If you want to discover new world i recommend Mandarin. Thats like a quarter of an actual world, and i think it would be more of a dopamine rush than Cyrillic. Im learning German slowly, i use program Rosetta Stone.

Duolingo is my go to site

  16. Cyrillic shouldn't be too much of a problem. It's just an alphabet.

Mandarin characters on the other hand, they would take a while to learn lol.

Not that Russian would be easy, plenty of grammar and vocabulary challenges there. Weird grammar is good though, it broadens the mind.

Heh. I've tried learning new languages a few times, never had enough willpower to keep plowing through. I know from birth Hebrew and English, and pretty much as a default, most religious Jews know some basic ancient Aramaic from the Talmud :p. I know some Yiddish terms and a couple of Arab expressions and songs, but none of those are really "knowing" the language. Maybe one day I'll actually learn Arabic.

  18. I've always wanted to learn Spanish (since it's so common where I live) and sign-language, but I never got around to starting. Perhaps I should.

I've been "learning" Welsh for about a year now, but in practice I've only scratched "lesson 1" on a variety of different sites. Someday I'll figure the language out.
