This topic has been covered here and there, but bears repeating due to it's increasing prevalence.

I would bet that most of us continue to view YouTube and other video sites for a variety of reasons. In many ways, these sites have become indispensable and satisfy a variety of needs, be them educational, entertainment, inspirational, relaxation, etc. Since the inception of these sites, triggering images could be found in thumbnails as well as within the video itself. However, due to the sheer amount of content uploaded to these sites, as well as more laxity and permissiveness as to what can be shown, the amount of potentially sexually-triggering material appears to be increasing. If we are not sufficiently careful, it is very possible to accidentally stumble upon one or more of these images and have them "linger" in our minds, potentially initiating the necessary trigger leading to a cascade of other thought processes that can ultimately result in a relapse.

Without going into much detail, I accidentally stumbled upon one of these highly-sexualized images relating to a risqué genre of porn yesterday. Since then, I have had to muster every ounce of inner strength in order to avoid relapsing. This post is not meant to cast blame at any video content producer, nor the site itself, and I take full responsibility for having viewed this particular image. Rather, this is meant as a strong, cautionary warning to all those that use these sites for the aforementioned purposes. Thumbnail images and their corresponding videos can be several times more powerful and more insidious than what we see on TV or in our casual, daily lives. What triggers us the most is ultimately subjective, but from personal experience, potentially triggering material, especially that on video sites, is becoming more and more omnipresent. To all those here, I say we must *never* let our guard down if we are to successfully conquer this addiction.

  2. I am not challenging your statement. Although, I have never seen any "highly-sexualized images relating to a risqué genre of porn". It is like how people claim to be triggered by Facebook and how there is porn everywhere on there. But I have never seen any porn or even a risqué photo. How come others stumble across this stuff and I never do? It's puzzling.

  3. You can be in danger if you aren't logged in your account on Youtube, because then it will show you whatever is popular at the moment and we know how much they exploit pretty women and sexual content in the thumbnails just to get our attention. You've got a point in there, bro.
    Stay safe!

  4. My first guess would be because you’ve never used either of these for porn-like entertainment. These apps can recall browsing history and suggest things for you to watch or see based on it. The first thing I made sure to do to my YouTube account after starting nofap was to clear my watch and search history. So far no issues. Facebook I’ve pretty much quit using all together but when I do hop on there the occasional bikini pics and models still pop up. I just learned to deal with it.

  5. I see. Yeah, that explains it. Thanks Tiger! :)

Point taken. I'm rather embarrassed to say what this was specifically, but let's just say it was a particular individual in a highly-sexualized, or very sexy pose of sorts. It's purely subjective, the kind of thing that has sent me into a downward spiral before. Luckily, not this time though.

It can be dangerous as we are addicts and always alert to the possibility of finding stimulation... I'm getting into meditation and when searching YouTube it is very easy to stumble across scantily clad females performing Pilates or yoga. Our damaged brains do the rest… stay vigilant

So true. I keep some pieces of loose leaf paper by my computer to selectively cover my screen if I go on YouTube or any other site that loves to flash gratuitously titillating images at me. The amount of smut on the net and elsewhere is sickening.

You are awesome man. I really appreciate the way you have alerted us. As you mentioned we have to be so careful specially on youtube. Its been 11 days no porn. Yesterday i was listening songs on YouTube, from their inevitably i ended up with some romantic video and so hardly i had escaped from that trap, if i was there few more minutes then obviously I may ended up with porn. Thank god i have saved my streak. See these all happend unknowingly...yes we have to know our triggers and we don't have to use those sites for time pass things (like useless surfing, songs, etc).

Thank you for your kind words, but I'm just a regular guy. I made a huge mistake in my youth to start viewing porn and it just escalated from there and stayed with me. It has robbed me of a normal life, something that I'm only now desperately trying to obtain. I see how other men have been affected by this addiction and it's makes me furious. We're only here for a short period of time and we must maximize every day, filling it with genuine happiness, and not with the malicious lie that is porn. Our future awaits us with open arms. Let us fulfill our destinies being the best version of ourselves we can be.

Yes. I agree. Thanks for the guidance. Keep message whenever your mind get trigger for the urge and whatever you will have done to escape from the trap.
This triggers and escapes will help us as precautions.

I agree to an extent with your post. There are images of attractive women on YouTube that can trigger those with severe porn addiction. However, the same can be said for walking down the street or watching the TV. You cannot go hide under a rock for the rest of your life so it's about managing the addiction with the methods available and this web site is a great tool.

  16. There is no doubt an abundance of sexual images/videos that pop up on Youtube or other social media sites. I'm talking about women in bathing suits and somewhat sexual poses. This can also be seen in the grocery store check-out line with magazines. It's everywhere and we can't live under a rock. Porn or nudity however is not as abundant.

I use to say I "stumbled" onto porn surfing the web and was corrected on this by my wife. She explained that she has NEVER "stumbled" onto porn using the internet and it hit me hard. Whenever there is porn on my screen, I did it. It didn't happen to me. I searched for it, maybe in some obscure way but nevertheless, I typed something in that made it pop up.

So a good way to check your motives is to ask, did I click on something sexual or type something sexual into my search that made this come up? If not, then don't worry about it. That same Cardi B video is popping up on everyones suggested videos, don't click on it. If however you are seeing straight pornography, that is something you sought out. Just my experience.

Video Blocker. It's a very good extension that helps you blacklist certain channels and filter certain content from the platform using Keywords or Wildcards. The caveat to all this is that the extension can be very unreliable because it can either stop working from the get go, or stop working somewhere along the line and never work again even after re-installation and filtering out a particular word means forgoing all content related to that word. It's not the most efficient extension when it comes to that, but It's helped me get rid of a lot of unwanted content.

With that said, everyone will have to deal with triggers regardless of this extension, and so I'd suggest not using it as a crutch because It can be very unhealthy to progress but rather as a means to leave you fairly comfortable browsing through YouTube rather than being on the edge.
