    Hi fellow fapstronauts,

has anyone tried cutting yourself off from the internet when doing reboot? If yes, how did it go?

I'm thinking of doing it for 90 days, but didn't quite figure out how to do my work without connection.

  2. I have cut almost all news information since start of May. Also not from newspapers, radio and television. Some things I still randomly notice on imgur, supermarket tabloids or other places, like the royal wedding or soccer world cup, but no politics, no celebrity gossip/suicides and no wars/desasters reach me at the moment. I can recommend it, feels much better, not reading permanently other peoples opinion about everything, while feeling unable to change anything same moment.

What does this say about us? that we're also social media junkies? It's best to cut off all addictions, otherwise we just switch one for another or worsen our second addiction. Addiction is an addiction, tool to get our dopamine up. I try not to be addicted to anything. Easier said than done.

Lol no man, yes being on our phones is a addiction, but there are no dopamine involved like PMO, remember a addiction is suppose to make you feel awesome or "high", then you can also say, taking a shower is a addiction or eating dinner is a addiction because we do it every day, if you quit using your phone, there would be no withdrawals symptoms

True story... I took the internet off of my iPhone. I can check emails and that's it. It greatly reduced how much I think about relapsing. Big time.
With that said, I'm writing this on my laptop. I'll admit there has been a thought of, "well I'm so close to the beginning," maybe I can bypass the web filter and get my fill of pornography.
Now that I type that out it makes me think about how I may feel tomorrow, which is not so good. Going to lay down and read.
Yes, I think many who compulsively use pornography also are compulsive with the internet.

Let’s be clear: Using Instagram, FB, etc on your phone ABSOLUTELY releases dopamine. Even logging into NoFap and seeing your alerts releases dopamine. So does eating, socializing, exercising, laughing, and many other things. The key is to identify the ones that you are doing compulsively/unhealthily and replace them with healthy ones.

I think that It helps big time as much as changing the environment where you live. In January I spent 1 week abroad without much internet It brought me a bunch of new perspectives. Now, it's a dream of mine to be away from the internet for a while for those who say that it's not addictive I advice to reconsider your opinions because It is.

It's very hard to find somebody who did the experiment as we're getting more dependant on the internet.

Believe it or not, I'm seriously considering getting a Senior Citizen phone like my dad has. No internet!

  10. I have never tried but I could try giving it a go, I don't know about 90 days though and to what extent. I should definitely axe the social media apps though, I've had too many triggers through those and non NF don't understand why I don't like it. Well come to think of it I've never met another NF in real life, would def be a neat experience.

I've tried this after I've started my recovery.
It's difficult question to answer. You can get significant profits but... will you block your internet forever? 90 days is not as long as some of you might think. After that you'll probably start surfing again and get similar outcome as 3 months before.

I have better idea. Get paper, write on it some goals and pick it in well visible spot. For my example it was "I won't start my day from computer sessions; I won't use internet in late night hours" etc. It works. It works after two or three months of failures. Failures are unavoidable when you're trying to develop new habits.
If you're addicted to internet and want to cut it off completely since tomorrow you'll probably fail.

The other thing is: If you're addicted to internet you'll probably utilize some of your mental energy to fight your temptations in that area (internet). You'll weaken yourself in PMO area. Would you like to risk it?

I asked my partner to password - protect my laptop. Now I only use the internet when she is in the house. Got rid of my smartphone (saved £30 a month!) and downgraded to one which literally can only send texts and calls. These two things were probably the biggest factors in helping me quit.
I think if you physically remove as much access to porn as possible, it lessens the amount you have to rely on just willpower. Quite a few times I have been ready to relapse but have not been able to access porn. Feels very frustrating at times but does work!
Doing this also made me realize how much time I used to waste on social media so has other benefits as well.

I'm gonna try it. I've called my IP to physically disconnect my connection starting next week and got rid of my tablet and smartphone. It'll be interesting experience going off grid for 3 months. I've tried it while walking Camino and loved peace of mind disconnection gave me. We'll see how it goes this time around. Friends and coworkers will not be happy but who cares.

The point is not cutting off the internet for good It's taking a break to see what happens. I downgraded to an almost senior citizen phone and I already feel some difference now that I don't have internet wherever I go. I recognize that I'm screwed enough to take, let's say, drastic actions. These things are designed to keep us connected all day.

Good idea, I manage to break my phone's screen and was forced to get a phone that I only can use a couple of simple apps related to work and It's been a help to keep me away from junk.

Just remember, if you really need to get on the internet for work, etc. there are literally people with smartphones everywhere! Chances are someone will let you borrow.

You don't need to cut anything, just take some omega-3 capsules and the urge will go away
