I know that wet dreams do not count as a relapse, but deciding to masturbate in a dream may be a gray area. Let me explain.

A week ago I had a dream where I was edging in the bathroom, but I stopped because I knew it was wrong (in my dream). Upon waking next morning, I had clean underwear. A few days later I had another dream where I was masturbating and very close to orgasm but the dream faded and I woke up again with clean underwear. Now comes last night- a more detailed dream. Apparently I was at a nudist resort and was walking around naked like other people (I used to view nudist porn on occasion to mix it up) and started masturbating in the shower. I knew I should stop and was about to orgasm when I felt a little bit of pain in my nether regions and then suddenly in my dream I am ejaculating (luckily I had a tissue in my hand). I woke up shortly after with wet underwear.

While thinking back on it, I believe I had a physical orgasm when I felt the pain just before orgasming in my dream. That being said, if I had stronger resolve and had stopped masturbating in my dream immediately (like I had in the past dreams) I doubt that I would have had a wet dream at all. I'm not sure if its related but the last few days have been extra hard with urges to P/MO. This is my first wet dream in a while, and my first wet dream since starting NoFap.

I'm curious as to other's thoughts. I don't consider it a relapse because I was definitely asleep and dreaming when I orgasmed but I think it might merit discussion.

    I wouldn't consider it a relapse.
Take a deep breath and forgive yourself, your brain, your body.

I believe it counts as a relapse as far as your trying to track recovery time. For the purposes of your brain healing, you MO'd.

But I would not consider this a failure when it comes to your own self control. No, not a real relapse. Just a sign that your brain is having trouble letting go of your addiction.

It's not a relapse. There's a difference between a physiological response while you're asleep and MOing when you're fully aware of what you're doing.

Yeah, I agree to the majority here. I experienced that same consciously masturbating in a dream situation. It means that you are not in the control of yourself as much you should be but I wouldn't consider it a relapse since it differs from your normal, consicious and awake choices. I mean, if you were fully conscious, it wouldn't be dreaming, would be?

  6. Wet dreams are not relapses. They can be bothersome (increased urges sometimes follow for a day or two after), but aren't relapses.

If you're at college or party regularly or something, I'd advise laying off the heavy drinking/smoking weed. These things virtually predicted a wet dream the next day if I was drunk and/or high enough.

Really at the end of the day, if you cannot control it, you are not conciously reinforcing your addicted pathways. So I think it is nothing to worry about.

That's really interesting, I've found the same thing. The next day after drinking I feel more horny and tired, so I succumb to the temptation and release. Is there anything more to it?

In strict terms I do think wet dreams count as relapses, as I did for me.

But anyway is a very reasonable idea to first try to control the conscious PMO, and then the unconscious one (the most dificult part)

Or only control the conscious part, it depends on what you are lookin for and so on... I mean is a very personal matter.

In my opinion, wet dreams don't count as relapses because they are a natural process to rid the body of excess sperm. You can't control what you dream about so you can't really blame yourself.

Perfect response. This is how your body is supposed to work. Wet dreams are all natural.

Your dream involved masturbating in your dream. Sometime a wet dreams includes actually masturbating in your sleep. Still a dream. Still not a reset.

From my teenage years a long time ago...some wet dreams were dry and crusty by the time I woke up meaning they had occurred hours before. Some wet dreams were wet and in the underwear or pajamas. Some wet dreams were all over my hand and quite fresh. All of them were enjoyable and if I had any of these today, the counter would not be reset.

Hey David, looks like all those who posted haven’t been around here since 2019 or earlier. Plenty of us have made it to 90 days though and beyond though!
