    Hello,

I will first start with my body type to give you guys an idea:

    Tall and skinny - 6'3" 165 Lbs.

Despite being skinny, I am no fruitcake. I have been doing 100-300 push-ups a day for 9 days now. I just got done with my last set of 100 (300 in total for the day, averaging 100 push-ups in 4-7 minutes), and I do not feel sore, or tired at all.

    Should I step it up?

Do it. The more time you spend doing pushups, the less time you have to PMO.

all work outs are healthy just as long as you don't cause yourself any pain in the process. and drink plenty of water before, during and after.

Are you doing it each day? I think you'll find many people will tell you that your muscles require at least a day to recover. Without googleing the question, you could be doing harm to your muscles and increasing the chance of causing injury. Your muscles will require to repair.

Just because you can do a lot of push-ups, doesn't mean you should be trying to do so many. The slower you take it, the better your muscles will be. If you are going up and down like a yoyo, you're just working harder but not really efficiently. If you're gonna put in the time, may as well get the best results out of it.

Do some research on push ups and what muscle groups you are working and find something that you can do the next day. I do crunches and push ups once every two days.

    Good luck!

I agree with NFi on this one Squeaky. Your body needs time to rest after a workout- at least 24 hours. Failing to include rest periods drastically increases the risk of injury. Furthermore, if you are only doing one exercise, you will develop muscle imbalances, again increasing the risk of injury.

If you want to get strong, I recommend doing a range of safe strength based exercises- say two to three times a week. High intensity strength training is also great for general strength and cardiovascular fitness.

Squeaky I read that you should mix up the workout rountine from day to day to let the muscle groups recover completely. This may give a example.

    Day 1. Pushups till exhaustion
    Day 2. Calesthetics
    Day 3. Rest day
    Day 4. Squats till exhaustion
    Day 5. Pullups
    Day 6. Rest day
    Day 7. Sprints
Day 8. calf lifts till exhaustion
    Day 9. Rest day
    Day 10. Pushups till exhaustion
    Ect...
Just an example to give you an idea...

It's not just about recovery that's important to look at.

Training just your chest muscles can cause an imbalance between the muscles on the front and your back muscles.

If you just train your chest muscles, your shoulders will get pulled forward because your back muscles aren't as strong. You'll end up looking like a neanderthaler.

It's important to keep your muscles well balanced in that you shouldn't overtrain one part and ignore another.

If I were you I'd search for an home workout routine which doesn't require weights.

Mix it up with some squats and pullups etc.

But that is some fucking dedication, planning on doing 500 pushups a day.

Awesome!! Good luck with your training.

    Peace, xagell

Thanks for all the replies, I will definitely take a break in between days and train different muscle groups.

Neanderthal? Haha. The boys on my dad side of the family, including my brother and I already have that trait. Over developed upper body, thin and under developed under body. All the more reason to focus on my legs and abs!

Best thing for abs and legs, besides weighted squats would be sprints. Most olympic sprinters are build like superman! Im gonna check out this insanity workout.

Peak 8 sprints are highly effective at releasing testosterone and keeping cortisol levels low. High T can be a problem for us Fapstronauts as a very high level of T means a high labido. But basicly, this is what peak 8 means:
Sprint as fast as you can for 30 seconds, slow down, stop, and walk back to the starting line. Do this 8 times. This will actually build your entire body up. Not just legs and abs. This one, you only want to do every 2 weeks, because of the risk of adrenal fatique.

Sprinting, not running is shown to build up abs. There is a difference. Squeaky never mentioned wanting to get a bigger from pushups, that is something you came up with on your own. He said he wanted to build his legs and abs, and...you can get exceptional results from body weight exercises as large muscles from gyms are often impractical, an often repulsive to women. So, save your money, avoid the gym. If there is bad advice on this thread, you are helping to contribute.

Since you are skinny, you're going to need to eat a lot more. The ectomorph body type (lanky, skinny types) need to eat more in conjunction with exercise in order to put on mass. Also, you need to do what most beginners to weight resistance training need to do: hit your muscles hard. Doing that many pushups isn't really enough. You need to add other moves to your routine. In other words, train the whole body. Focusing on just one part will make you look weird and throw everything else out of balance.

Your caloric intake would not be at a deficit if you eat enough calories, whether your doing sprints or lifting weights. All the military branches use body weight conditioning, because it is safe, cheap, and extreamly effective. Weights on the otherhand, produce oversized muscle groups which make men slower and dumber. I said that right, muscles do compete with the brain for oxygen.

To address your second point, its possible squeaky was doing pushups for fun, as a form of cardio, to burn calories, to get stronger, really, only Squeaky can say...strength and muscle size are not proportionate. At 150 lbs its possible Squeaky could beat us both down.

You are right about weights being more effective at building muscle, but the problem is, you will have to carry that muscle around with you the rest of your life, in the form of muscle or fat, and after 40, that excess weight gets pretty heavy.
