Day 6 today! May seem like nothing to a lot of you but it's my longest streak without pmo in years so I'm pretty pleased.

Browsing the forums iv come across people talking about deltafosb, can anyone shed some light on what this is and the role it plays in pmo addiction?

    Thanks in advance

It is a gene transcriptor that floods into the reward pathways when you engage in dopamine inducing behaviours (drugs, porn, gambling).

Its main attribute is that it instigates brain plasticity and remains in these areas for a long time- many months. Therefore the new pathways don't just disappear, when you stop using. The reward pathways remain, highly sensitised to those cues- anticipating the fix.

So even when you stop looking at porn DeltaFosB maintains the sensitisation, so that if you slip, the pathways are back instantly. It's evolutionary function is to make sure the brain remembers reward.

In addiction literature it is considered that the level of DeltaFosB in the brain correlates directly with the progression of addiction: The more there is, the more addicted you are.

This is why it takes quite a long abstinence to beat porn addiction- the brain has to forget which means DeltaFosB returning to baseline levels.
